Portraits: Bears Ears consists of ambient vibration and audio recordings from prominent regions of Bears Ears National Monument and surrounding areas. The work celebrates the rebirth of the monument and the human and geological history preserved there. Six locations are exhibited through sonic portraiture: ambient resonance of distinguishing landforms is mixed with ambient audio recorded in-situ to capture a moment in the spirit of the landscape. Several landforms featured in this work, and the sounds of their vibration, are sacred to Native American tribes of the Bears Ears region. Click the map to explore.
